A woman with reddish hair, wearing a blue t-shirt and paint-splattered shorts, is drawing with a pencil on a large white paper attached to a beige wall. The paper contains numerous abstract pencil sketches. There is a quote at the top of the wall and a small black object on the floor near the wall.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I come from a lineage of painters—my grandfather and father before me—each generation passing down a reverence for the act of seeing. With over forty years devoted to my craft, I draw deeply from a well of experience, formal study in Art History and Painting, and my formative years at the New York Studio School, artist residencies and assisting established artists in New York and Paris.

For over thirty years, my practice of yoga and meditation has attuned me to the subtle energies that move through all living beings.

Over the past thirteen years, I have swum in open oceans with whales, dolphins, sharks, and manta rays, lived among lions in African conservancies and ventured on safaris. These encounters have deepened my awareness of the wild, sentient lives that share our world and have become my greatest teachers.

My art is a bridge: each mark honors the vitality and spirit of animals and landscapes. My process is physical and immersive: I draw standing up, using my whole body to channel movement and vitality onto large sheets, and I paint with my hands, allowing raw energy to flow directly from skin to surface. Each mark is a gesture of empathy, a bridge between worlds—human and animal, seen and unseen, in the intricate weave of nature.

I believe sentience is the fundamental common ground of existence, shared by humans and animals alike. My work invites viewers to reconnect with this deep sense of presence and to recognize the interconnectedness that binds us all. Through my art, I hope to foster empathy, awaken awareness, and honor the wildness—within and without—that sustains us, reminding us of our place in the living web of life.
